HAND DRUMMING FOR BEGINNERS
(Middle Eastern)

A hands-on introduction to the basic techniques of the darabuka (also called doumbek) with a focus on rhythms from the Arab world and Turkey. As well as developing confidence with playing technique, participants will learn traditional rhythms in a small ensemble setting.

HAND DRUMMING FOR BEGINNERS
(West African)

A hands-on introduction to the techniques of the djembe, with a focus on multi-part rhythms from Ghana, Guinea and Senegal. Throughout this fun and interactive course, participants will explore individual technique as well as a variety of ensemble grooves.

HAND DRUMMING – BEYOND THE BASICS

Intermediate and advanced techniques on darabuka, with a focus on more complex rhythms, including odd metres.

HEARING, READING AND WRITING RHYTHM

Designed for musicians of all levels - from student to professional - this course provides a fun and inspiring way to improve confidence, musical literacy, and overall rhythmic musicianship. Using unique listening and notation exercises, participants will learn to hear, read and write rhythms found in popular, jazz, classical and world music genres.

HAND DRUMMING FOR THE CLASSROOM EDUCATOR

A solid introduction to basic hand drumming techniques, either West African or Middle Eastern, presented with a series of rhythms that have been customized for classroom use. Designed both for music teachers, and for other educators who wish to incorporate world drumming into a general curriculum of cultural studies.
